What If Ease In Your Body Was a Choice?

 As a facilitator of change I receive many requests for healing or ease in particular parts of people's bodies.  Some therapists promote themselves as 'healers' that can make dramatic change for clients, and I believe this is possible.

But what if the client isn't willing to receive the change?

Nobody likes a painful body.  But sometimes what you would have to give up ie. the pain, stiffness, soreness,  is far more inviting for people than change.  You read it right.  Sometimes what the pain means for people far outweighs what pain free could do for them.  What could you be if your body had ease every moment of the day?

What would you have to give up for your body and you to choose ease?

 Really it is just a choice.  I have in the past woken up with a very painful back, so much so that I didn't know how I was going to be able to get out of bed, let alone deal with the children.  However, being the great manipulators that they are, the children convinced me to take them to the beach.

 As I prepared to take them to the beach the back pain eased a little.  As we got to the beach it was virtually non existent.  Playing on the beach I forgot how sore it was as I was having too much fun.  Upon our return home the pain started to trickle back.

So was pain a choice?  Yes.  I know I have re-created pain after a fantastic massage as well.  My body was so used to being in pain, if it wasn't there I would re-create the familiarity of pain to keep me stuck, limited and small.  Nobody wants to be the grandness they can be when they are in pain.  It is much safer to limit your self and cut off all your ability to receive, or is it?

I have also been willing to receive far beyond anything I have experienced before when having a bodywork session and the difference in my body afterwards has been nothing short of amazing.

Six Pack of Abs

Abdominal crunches are not everybody's dream of exercise/movement or fun.  Today on Muscle Monday, I have collected a few videos for you to show you some variations that you may find easier or more challenging if that is what you wish.

As with all exercise, your abs will require rest after these exercise routines so I suggest you only do them every other day.

Try this at home core workout to not only work your "6pack abs" but your internal/external obliques, transverse abdominus and spinal support muscles. Crunches are out! They're done. They cause more spinal pressure and danger then they are worth. Avoiding spinal flexion exercises are crucially important to create an effective core routine. None of these exercises do that.

 Collection of basic Abdominal/Core movements without equipment, except for something to hang from! Just a resource for choosing several exercises to use in training session. Remember- training will make your core strong, but if you want to SEE it- you need to be burning calories and have a clean intake! :)

 


 

Enjoy Muscle Monday - work your muscles for your enjoyment.  If you make it work or a workout it takes all the fun and joy out of movement/exercise.  Your six pack of abs awaits you.  You may need to cut out the six pack of beer first!

This post is guaranteed to be a little weird for some of you - be warned it may rock your perception of your body!

Over the past 6 years I have had the great joy of assisting people to feel better about themselves through the art of Kahuna Massage and more recently Bars Sessions.

As time goes on clients are receiving more from each session than I thought possible and sometimes than what they thought possible.  Apart from the physical benefits of a Kahuna Massage including removal of toxins, deep relaxation and the release of long held tension in their muscles,  Clients are reporting they are feeling more connected to themselves and achieving a sense of oneness.

I'm not saying this to boost my own credentials.  I now ask each client before the session, whether it be Kahuna Massage or Bars, "If you could have anything from todays session, what would it be?"  This opens up a whole world of opportunities for me to facilitate.  I don't heal clients.  I really only facilitate change, if you are willing.

If you had no limits, what would you be willing to receive for your body or into your life today?

The use of Access tools has allowed me more possibilities in my life than I previously thought possible.  Today I am going to share with you an excerpt from one of their books: Embodiment: the Manual You Should Have Been Given When You Were Born

This book may go against everything you've ever thought, everything you've been taught, and  everything you've bought from everything and everyone else around you.  It doesn't claim to give you the answers.  Instead it will encourage you to ask questions.  It will allow you to enjoy the body you currently have - and to enjoy the body you create!

Among other things the book covers 10 Things That Your Body Would Tell You If You'd Only Listen, and I'm going to share them briefly with you here today.

  1. Do one thing a day to nurture, acknowledge and appreciate me.  How many days do yo manage to nurture, acknowledge and appreciate your body?  Everyday?  About three out of seven? About one out of 800?  Your body would like you to acknowledge it and nurture it on a daily basis.
  2. Stop Judging Me.  Judging your body is not the way to change it.  Instead, acknowledge it and the ask it what it would take for it to change.  Your body is as conscious as you are, maybe even more so, because it's willing to be.   It's like an animal.  Animals are conscious, simply because they don't cut off their awareness with judgements like we do.
  3. I was created to have fun. I have a startling question to ask you: What if the sole purpose of life was to have fun?  Some people say life is supposed to be fun for kids, but not for adults.  They think adults have heavy and serious responsibilities, so they can't have fun, and a lot of people have ended up buying this point of view.
  4. Ask me about me.Don't do things that involve me without asking me how I feel about them.  Don't shove hummus up my nose because someone tells you it will make us feel sexy and lose weight.  Stop judging and ask your body.  Your body has all the answers if you'll start asking.
  5. Ask me what it would take to get me to look the way you want me to.  If you'll just ask what it would take to get me to look the way you want me to, I'll be happy to comply.   I'll let you know exactly what it would take, but never ask and take the time to listen and then do what I request.
  6. I'm the one eating. Your body is saying, "I'm the one eating, idiot.  You are not."  Okay, I just added idiot.  Your body didn't really say that.  But I did say, "When it come time to eat, ask me what I'd like."  (except when it says no to chocolate and you really, really want it.  Dark Chocolate is a food group from my point of view! he, he)
  7. Ask me what movement I would like to do.   Instead of asking your body what exercise it would like, ask it what movement it would like to do....It might want to do something completely different every single day....When you are truly in communion with your body, moving it is a joy and pleasure.
  8. Don't buy the latest fad.  Your body says, "Don't buy the latest fad as to what will finally change me.  I don't need to be changed as much as I need to be listened to.  It's really simple.
  9. Ask, "Where does this come from?"  This has to do with how to handle pains, discomforts and hunger.  Instead of reactively responding to these when you feel them, your body wants you to ask, "Where does this come from?" 98% of the thoughts feelings and emotions you experience aren't yours.  Somewhere between 50-90% of the pain and suffering you experience in your body isn't yours.  Never was.
  10. I'm a body - You're an infinite being.  Your body is saying, "Hey, I'm a body.  You're an Infinite being.  You're not inside of me.  I am inside of you.  Because you're infinite, which is really, really, really big, you're too immense to fit inside of me.  Rather, I exist inside of you, but that doesn't mean we shouldn't have a connection and a communion, right?"
Embodiment doesn't require pain and suffering.  Not if you are in communion.  A feather tough creates a huge result.  But yo have to listen to the ten things you body is saying to you.

How different could your body be if you allowed these suggestions into your life?

Be careful what you ask for if you do come for a Kahuna Massage or Bars Session.  A large amount of my recent clients have received far more change in their lives and their bodies than most would think possible from  a 1.5 hr session.

Where did it all begin?

In the not to distant past I lived a life where a high paying  and even higher stressed job consumed most of my life.  I knew something was missing because there was no joy in my work week (except when the bonus's were paid).

This constant stress and pressure to outperform last weeks sales results and beat every store in the country soon took it's toll on my body and created a lot of pain and discomfort.  So I took refuge and spoilt myself with a weekly remedial massage - Hey, I worked hard I deserved it!  My wife also liked massages so she had them as well.  There was a big difference though.  I would come home and say that was good.  She would come home beaming, more energized and totally relaxed - some days she would even look younger.

It didn't take me long to realize that I was missing out on something.  I had a remedial massage, my wife had a full body Kahuna massage.  I had to try one for myself.  Oh My God!!  It wasn't just a massage from another country (Kahuna originates in Hawaii), it was a massage from another planet.  I never realized you could have a 1hr massage that could revive you on a physical, mental and spiritual level deeper than a 2 week yoga retreat in the tropics.

Needless to say I never went back for a remedial massage again.  My obsession didn't stop there.  I was so inspired by the effect 'Kahuna' was having on my body and life, I decided to learn this healing modality and pass on the bliss.

I took holidays ASAP and booked myself into learn at  well known and highly recommended Mette's Institute.  What started out as a "I'll just go and learn the basics so I can massage friends and family" lead to a number of years of learning and studying in Kahuna Bodywork and many different energy healing modalities.

Six years later I created Body Bliss Massage and Blissful Life Healing.  A place for bodies and souls to relax, rejuvenate and revitalize.

1. 2. Deep Relaxation - Aren't all massages relaxing?  Not in my experience, and I'm sure you've experienced some massages that have left you feeling less than relaxed.  The level of relaxation you feel in a massage comes down to 3 things -
  • Style of Massage - the long flowing strokes used in a Kahuna massage helps you achieve deeper state of relaxation sooner.  One massage stroke can go from your neck to your toes and back.  Just the thought of that eases a whole lot of tension in my body.  Why is that so relaxing?  Well the tactile sensors in the brain can't focus when you receive touch too so many parts of your body, so it literally switches off.  Most people slow down or stop thinking.  Many fall asleep.  This is when your body melts into the table and you feel you are being transported to another world.  A world were life really is blissful, tension falls off your body, your cells start to work in harmony with each other, nothing seems to matter anymore you just go with the flow and you may even get off the table looking younger or standing taller.  What would that do for your body,mind and spirit?
  • Environment - a deep relaxation massage in a shopping center?  You've got to be kidding.  What about a massage clinic on a busy road?  Not for me thanks.  How about a quiet sanctuary in the enchanting Noosa Hinterland where all you can hear is the soft music, birdsong and your own breath?  Now that is more like it.  In our often frantic, overstimulated world we very rarely give ourselves even 5 minutes a day for stillness and peace.  How much better do you think you would feel if you allowed that into your life?  Being apart from  your usually stimulation's is the best way to relax so you can just focus on you and allow yourself the time to heal.
  • Therapist - I've had massages all over the world in many different styles from Kahuna, remedial, Swedish, shiatsu..... from both male and female therapists.  Even though Kahuna is my preferred massage style what it comes down to with me is how comfortable the therapist is within themselves and with the massage style they offer.  Have you ever had a massage from a person that just felt awkward? Like you were the first person they had massaged or seen with little or no clothing on.  You're not going to receive the massage your body deserves or requires if the therapist doesn't love what they are doing and can effectively transfer this love through their body to yours via their hands, arms (and sometimes feet).  I haven't had a foot body massage but it sure looks interesting - see video below!


3. Circulation - Life is about circulation and constant movement.  Even when things appear to be still the molecules within the cells are constantly moving.  And so it is within our bodies when we have optimum health.  Things flow freely and we feel fantastic within ourselves.  Our busy life, faster than necessary food, the stress and pressure of daily life coupled with a lack of exercise often start to cause us health issues that can go undetected until we fall apart.  The best way to avoid this scenario is to maintian optimum circulation in our bodies.  While there are many things that effect the circulation within our bodies eg. diet and exercise, having a deep relaxing massage is one of the most soothing ways to improve your circulation.  Improving your circulation brings fresh blood to your cells and helps them naturally rejuvenate and repair.  Using regular massage to improve your circulation can alleviate cold extremities, move waste away from muscles and internal organs,   lower blood pressure and improve your overall body function.  How much better than that can it get?
